Recognition of value to others ~

How in touch are you with service and value for others?  I wonder…

Listening to the radio recently I had a “are you kidding me?” moment. A homeless man found a backpack filled with over $40,000 in American Express travelers checks and turned the bag into the authorities. For his honorable actions, he received statehouse recognition and a plague. No financial reward for his noble deed. The public recognition was important and offered a teaching about right action. But, a plague? Are you kidding me? The man is homeless; where is he going to hang this piece of wood?

This situation is an example of stupid narrow mind. Did anyone on the recognition committee consider that a plaque would not really be of benefit for this man? Shift gears to a broader view; how often are we in touch with what is in the best interest of the other.  Do you really know what is of value to others or are you mirroring your own values with a narrow mind? I wonder…

Note to reader: fortunately the people of Boston took action from a broader view and created a fund for this honorable citizen that has accumulated beyond the backpack amount to assist him with medical, shelter, and basic living needs.
