Richness in the Mundane

Where is the richness in the mundane?   I wonder …

After three weeks away on an intensive meditation retreat I return to “regular” life activities and pursuits. These regular activities include laundry, cooking, phone calls, scheduling, dog walking, weeding, and parenting …  to name a few. Richness in the mundane reminds me of sacred outlook, seeing and experiencing every situation, every moment, and every person as sacred.  Even the dull ache in my back from sitting too much is sacred. What a practice!

My beloved is also a meditation practitioner. Recently he has mentioned a few times that his meditation experience has been “really good.”  Sweetly I offered, “don’t get attached to your experience.” Today, getting into the groove of regular, I added, “This is it. These mundane moments are the practice. Right now is the richness in life.”

Where is the sacredness in your mundane, simple, basic life? How do you tap into the precious sacred view of life… that is so rich? I wonder.
